1st Bank Yuma
1st Bank Yuma was formed in 2001 by a group of local business men and women to fill what they perceived to be a gap in banking services for the Yuma community. Since that time, we have grown to over $200 million in total assets and serve over 14,000 accounts at our various locations. Since opening, our staff, management, directors, and shareholders have been committed to the community.
As part of that commitment to the community and in keeping with our philosophy of being good corporate citizens, our Management, Staff, and Board believe we should give back to the community. We accomplish this through our donations and sponsorships, but our people also commit their personal time in service to various non-profit and service organizations throughout the community. During 2013, 1st Bank Yuma donated over $69,700 back to the community. It is not uncommon for over $65,000 of that annual amount to be recurring donations and sponsorships to a wide variety of organizations and causes.
Of particular note is that 1st Bank Yuma donates $25,000 annually to the Yuma Community Food Bank to help them with the very important work they do in helping to feed the needy in our community.
It is especially gratifying to know that we sponsor the Everfi Financial Literacy and education program in 5 of our local high schools at an annual commitment from the bank of $15,000. This educational program introduces the students to the concepts of credit, savings, handling their personal financial affairs, and the details of keeping track of their finances.
We also sponsor the Heart of Yuma event each year where local leaders, volunteers, not-for-profit and for-profit organizations, and local benefactors are honored. We are very proud of the fact that 3 prior Philanthropists of the Year (Donald Soldwedel, Stephen P. Shadle, & Ronald Martin) either serve or have served on the bank's board of directors.
There are many other non-profit organizations and events that benefit from the bank's generosity. Our staff volunteers their time at the Food Bank, local Rotary Clubs, Yuma County Historical Society, Hospice, Caballeros de Yuma, and many more. Additionally we sponsor events like the Balloon Festival, the El Toro Bowl, Midnight at the Oasis, Yuma County Chamber of Commerce Dinner, Miss Yuma County Pageant and many more.
It is important to understand that in order to give back to the community, like we have been able to do, the bank must be in sound financial condition. According to reporting from Hovde Financial and Financial Management Consulting, utilizing their composite rating systems, 1st Bank Yuma was rated as the number 2 bank in the State of Arizona at the end of 2013, and is the only 5 Star Rated bank in Yuma County. We have a continuing history of strong financial performance and are poised to produce even better results moving forward.
